The Core

Pilates is renowned for its work developing a strong core – muscles of the deep abdominals, longitudinal back and of the diaphragm and pelvic floor. Control of these muscles help to stabilise the torso, integrate the pelvis and shoulder girdle and encourage efficient movement, supporting better health of the entire system.

What is “The Core”?

We are told in exercise class to: “…use core control…work with a good centre…to be centred…”, but often with the lack of understanding of how to achieve it. Pilates promotes a good understanding of the core muscles and how they support us. They help us to connect better to our movement, support the spine and the internal organs, develop strong and lean abdominals –  feel strong and in control.
